As you can see in this map of Churchhill County, Nevada it is a simple map that can be used to better understand text and text placement when creating maps. For example, the text for Dixie Valley, NV is in a #3 location for text. This text could be moved to the upper right hand corner which is the ideal #1 spot to place text if the location is completely open, which in this case it is. Now take a look at Cold Springs, Nevada it is located in the #3 placement because of the highway road 722 in the #1 one spot. it could have been placed in the upper left in the #2 spot but it would cause the map to be clutter by the existing text of Wonder, NV. Fernly, NV also falls into this same category because of the boundry line and interstate 80. The towns of Hazen and Fallon are placed correctly based off the theory of placing text on maps. take a look to the right side of the map, there is text stating "to Austin" this text has little meaning because it is dirrectly in between to highways. it is important to be accurate when you place text so you do not confuse the map user. Even though this is a very simple map to use it still can be very useful to help represent the difference between good and poor text placement.
